Tbar Heaven 2008

BenjiBlindBenji
Found sitting on the Galveston seawall in the midst of a cold sandstorm, Benji was rescued and discovered to be completely blind. He was the sweetest elderly dog; and knew lots of love and TLC in his foster home. He was called to Heaven too soon.

Tuscany
We gave him everything we had: food, love, veterinary care, and prayers;  but in the end, we couldn’t save Tuscany from severe starvation.

Thursday, July 24th – TBAR (Melanie and Dale) went out to meet the vet and check out this horse  after a lady called TBAR and told us he was losing weight and she couldn’t afford to feed him anymore. TBAR ended up making an emergency decision and taking Tuscany into our rescue on the spot. He is beyond skinny. He is a walking skeleton. He is a 0.5 on the Henneke Body Scoring.  We named him Tuscany. We named him that because we know he will live up to the name when he fills out and becomes the beautiful horse he once was. He’s in his early 20’s which means he is not extremely old for a horse. Today horses live well into their 30’s. There is no reason for this guy to be this thin except that he didn’t have enough food.

When Dale and I went out to see him after a phone call from the owner telling us that she can’t afford to feed him and begging us to take him we were stunned by what we saw. There was some poor quality grain but no hay for this guy to eat but his eyes were bright and he looked at us with hope. Enough said, so we went back and picked up the trailer and took him home. He’s eating senior feed four times a day with plenty of hay so we expect him to come around and start gaining weight quickly.

August 13th – Sadly, Tuscany lost his battle to recover from severe starvation; and passed away this morning, unable to rise. In the end, he was ready to go and we helped him cross over. Our hearts are broken, not being able to save this magnificent Soul. He is not suffering any more.

THANK YOU to all Tuscany’s supporters!!

For the last 3 weeks, Tuscany knew love and care from humans. He was honored as the brave, courageous Spirit that he was. And had plenty of food (in small, frequent quantities), shelter, warmth and tender loving care. Please light a candle for Tuscany. Say hello to Chief, Toot, Chai and the other TBar horses in heaven, Tuscany.  Tell them we miss them and look forward to seeing them again some day.

Breed: Wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier
Color:  White with Black and Orange Patches
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Description: Abbey is a Jack Russell Terrier that is fun loving and full of energy. She weighs 15 pounds so she is small with wire hair that is easy to keep and doesn’t shed too much. Even though she’s small she is not a lap dog. She is very loving and affectionate but due to her energy level she needs lots of exercise so she doesn’t have time to sit on your lap. She’s very curious and will check out the house or yard and then quickly moves onto something new. She is very smart and would love to have an owner who has time to teach her tricks. She needs a home with a fenced yard.  Her cute face and comical expressions will make you fall in love with her instantly. She is housebroken and crate trained, spayed and current on all her shots.

skipper08 T-Bar Name:  Skip T-Bar Number: D335 Weight: 40 lbs
Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 7/2008 1 yr
Breed: Australian Shepherd / Heeler Mix
Color:  White with Orange on his head and back
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Description: Skip probably knows what a handsome dog he is but it has never gone to his head. No one knows his background but he must have had a good home at one time. Skip is a very calm and sweet dog who is very well-behaved. He comes when called and sits when you ask him to. He’s really smart too. He knows which bowl is his food bowl. At feeding time, he leads the younger puppies at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) to their bowls and then goes to eat at his own bowl. Other dogs would just growl at them and chase them off but this guy is smart enough to think of a better way. When the pups are inside the house and they need to go out, Skip goes in and rounds them up and they follow him outside. Skip is about a year old and a striking white with tan head and tan spots on his back. He is neutered and vaccinated. Probably a Australian shepherd/heeler mix, he will be a loving and loyal member to the lucky family who adopts him. For more information, contact TBAR at 936- 878-2349

BluewoCast T-Bar Name: Blue T-Bar Number: D333 Weight: 3lbs
Sex: Boy Age on 6/2008 4 months
Breed:  Hound
Color:  Orange and Black
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Update 8/15/08:  “We had the pleasure of having Blue in our home for 3 days. He was nothing but a sweetheart. He was housetrained and crate trained. He slept fine in the crate at night. He was not aggressive with any people he met, or our other dog. When our dog got aggressive with him, he didn’t get scared or growl back, he just wagged his tail. He is not possessive of his food, and even let our other dog take bites out of his bowl. He walked well on a leash and rode great in the car. Were it not for our dog’s hip problems, we would have loved to make Blue a permanent member of our family.”
– Mary Pena
Blue’s Story: Blue was founding wandering in the country. He was limping badly and was very skinny. X-rays revealed a high break on his back leg. Being a young dog, we opted to put the leg in a cast which should heal nicely over the next 6 weeks. Blue required a special procedure to set his leg which cost $600 (surgery would have been $1200). Update 6/15/08: A follow-up x-ray shows that Blue’s leg is healing nicely. He’s right on track to a full recovery.  Update 6/27/08: Blue’s cast came off today! He is still thin but now that the cast is off his body can start using energy to gain weight instead of healing. He has bald patches on his front legs from the IV’s he had and his back leg is still stiff and has bald spots from the cast. The leg that had the cast on is the far one. Update: Nov 08 – Blue went home to live with his new mother, Becky, who has three other dogsBlue’s vet bill totaled over $1200.

Thank you to Blue’s sponsors:  Art Helping Animals, and Mary & Ricky Pena

Sex: Neutered Male Age on 1/2008:  4 years 3 months
Breed: Shepherd  HOUSEBROKEN
Color:  Black with tan and white markings
Adopted THANK YOU!  Location: Washington, Texas
DescriptionGeorgie isn’t head of his class – he’s average. He doesn’t have stunning good looks, he’s average. Even his story of how he ended up at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) is average – someone found him dumped on the streets. So Georgie has been overlooked time and time again, for the cute puppies, the unusual colorings, the really sad stories. Georgie is just your average wonderful family dog. The kind of dog that gets along great with everyone – other dogs, people, especially kids – and everything – walks, inside, and outside. He loves water whether playing in the sprinkler, with a hose or in a kiddie pool. This 3 year old Shepherd is on the small size, only 45 lbs; neutered, current on shots and longing for a home of his own. Won’t you take a closer look at Georgie?
November 2008 – Georgie was “officially” adopted this weekend by a wonderful couple.  He is living inside with his new family and loving the extra attention

The stranger looked into his eyes and connected with Petey’s lost soul. He took Petey home with him and gave him a warm, safe space to sleep and food to fill his belly. Since the kind stranger agreed to foster Petey, he was accepted into True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) so he could find his forever home. Sex:  Neutered Male Age on 12/2006:  11 years
Breed:  German Shepherd
Color:  black and tan
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: College Station, Texas
Description: Shep isn’t for every body. In fact, Shep isn’t the dog most people would
want. Only a very special kind of heart will say yes to Shep.
Shep’s story started out all right, but took a sad turn…Having been loyal to his family for over 11 years, Shep’s loyalty was repaid by being dumped in the woods of Somerville. He lost alot of weight trying to find his way home. Wandering the woods, he got caught in a trap but bravely kept looking for home even with a badly damaged toe (which had to be amputated). As if that’s not sad enough, Shep has a terminal case of heartworms*. So one way or another, Shep has only a couple of years left -With good food and loving, Shep will again become a striking black and tan German Shepherd. He’s a gentle, calm-natured dog; and he seems to appreciate the 2nd chance he’s getting. He gets along well with other dogs too. He’s neutered and had all his shots. So you see, Shep needs a very special person with a big, loving heart that can give this stately gentleman the glorious, loving retirement he so deserves. There’s no long term commitment of 15+ years like with most dogs; just a rewarding, short-term love affair with Shep.

Popeye Jun07aWebJune 2007 T-Bar Name:Popeye T-Bar Number: D245 Weight: 3lbs
Sex: Neutered Boy Age on 5/2007 1 yr
Breed:  Beagle / Boxer
Color:  White with orange patches
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
Update June 2008: A very special family came along that fell in love with Popeye. Even though Popeye was not officially up for adoption, this family was able to do whatever Popeye needed to make him a part of their family and make him happy. Slowly and gently, Popeye was transitioned to their home. And Popeye fell in love with his new family. He’s happy, healthy and has his very own family. A wonderful, fairy-tale ending to Popeye’s story! Update June 2007: Popeye is recovering nicely. He has lost vision in one eye, but it doesn’t seem to bother him.  He has won the hearts of all the TBAR volunteers who care for him and his sponsors with his charming personality and happy attitude. His favorite activity is to pick up a soft, fluffy toy in his mouth and accompany the volunteers on the feeding rounds. He loves his toy! So full of life and love, how could any one hurt this dog?!

Update Dec 2007: Popeye’s abuser was found guilty! He was sentenced to 30 days in prison, has to pay the court $500 and has to pay Tbar the $600 initial vet bill that we paid. He also has to go to a mental health evaluation and anger management classes. Justice for Popeye!

* WARNING: Popeye’s story is horrible. Stop reading now if you don’t want your heart to break. **

Original Story: Popeye was seized by the Sheriff’s Department because a man had tied him up and beaten him with a golf club. X-rays showed that Popeye had a fractured skull, broken sinus cavity and a bulging eye. They also showed that he had been shot in the head. Later, the man confessed that Popeye was a stray and he was ‘doing us a favor’ by trying to get rid of him. While his injuries were critical, through it all, Popeye was wagging his tail and showing love to his caretakers. TBAR and the vet couldn’t give up on a dog who wanted to live so badly and could show love after all his abuse. The first few days were touch and go for Popeye and he wouldn’t eat. But slowly, he started to feel a little better and started to eat. Popeye has a long recovery, but he deserves a second chance at life, don’t you think?

Popeye before

If you would like to sponsor Popeye and contribute to his rehabilitation, we’ll keep you updated on his progress. You can know in your heart that Popeye will never again be hurt or suffer; he will only know love and kindness from now on. That’s our promise to him.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA T-Bar Name: Red Fox (aka “RED”) T-Bar Number:D225 Weight: 46 lbs
Sex:  Neutered Male Age on 4/2007:   1 yr
Breed:  Red Heeler/ Shepherd
Color:  Red and White with Red Specks
ADOPTED – Thank You! Location: Washington, Texas
DescriptionRed is lucky he didn’t get shot! His beautiful tail looks just like a red fox tail and he was wandering around a country road, hungry, looking for food. At first, Red thought he was on the adventure of a lifetime, running around, checking out all the new smells and sights. But then Red got hungry and it was getting dark; and his family was no where to be found. House after house chased him away, until days later, a caring soul realized he was lost and needed help.  Red was so thankful for some food and a safe place to sleep. He filled his belly and then slept deeply for the first time in days. When no one claimed Red, he came to True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR), to find a forever home.Red knows commands like sit, come and stay, so he was trained at one time.  He gets along great with other dogs, loves to play, and most of all, loves attention from people. He will just sit by your leg, looking sweetly into your eyes as you pet him. He rides well in a car, loves to go for walks, and has great leash manners. This beautiful, 1 yr old, red heeler/shepherd mix has had all his vaccinations, is neutered, and ready for a loving, forever home.

Description“I’m not garbage”, Buster says. And yet he found himself inside a duct-taped box with his siblings sitting by the side of the road like trash. Next to his box was another box, totaling 10 precious lives in all, carelessly tossed away. How could anyone do such a thing?! Don’t they know it’s illegal? A passing motorist saw 2 puppies break out of a box and stopped. The puppies were gathered up and taken home with this Good Samaritan and True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) was contacted. Ten beautiful, 10-12 week old collie/heeler mixes, girls and boys, different colors – all fluffy, sweet, and adorable! Some are more outgoing, like Maddy and Palla, some are more demure, like Butter and Roxy, and some look like teddy bears, like John Henry. The puppies have already had their first puppy shots and come with a certificate for their spay and neuter.

DescriptionRemember Clifford, the Big Red Dog, the children’s book character? He was over-sized, loved children, land was a bit clumsy with his big size. Not a mean bone in his body. That’s Jack. A big red dog with a heart to match, he’s looking for a family that can appreciate his size. While Jack can’t take kids for a ride, like Clifford, he could probably pull a wagon of kids. This year old, red/orange Labrador mix is ready at a moment’s notice to have a good time – whether it’s romping and playing, chasing a ball, or going for a walk. He’s up for anything! It’s his easy-going Labrador nature. He’s had his vaccinations and is neutered too. If you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky, Clifford, the red dog to enjoy life with, consider adding Jack to your family.

Hallie – ADOPTED – Thank You!

Hallie

Adorable 4 month old calico girl. Found caught up in barbed wire. Has healed up just fine and is a real lap cat with a big purr you can hear across the room! She’s had her shots, is spayed and ready for her forever home. Hallie and Derry were adopted together – Thank You!

CASSIDY – ADOPTED – Thank You!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Cassidy  loves to have you rub his belly and shows his pleasure by kneading gently on your arms. He knows not to use his claws with people already too. A big purr from this little body, Cassidy is a snuggler. He’s a kitten, so he’s ready to play with his siblings or you! He’s already had his first kitten shots including rabies and feline leukemia; and he’s neutered.  6/04/07 – 4 months

AUDREY – ADOPTED – Thank You!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Named after the actress, Audrey Hepburn, this demure, little girl will fool you at first, acting shy and scared. But give her a moment to get used to something new and then she’s running around, acting playful!  She’s quite capable of holding her own when playing with the boys; and has even been known to be the instigator! She may be the demure one, but she has the loudest meow. Her calico colors are beautifully muted gray and tan/orange, with blue/gray eyes. For being the smallest, she has the loudest purr! She’s already had her  first kitten shots including rabies and feline leukemia; and she’s spayed.

BENZ – ADOPTED – Thank You!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As in Mercedes Benz, cause this little boy is a class act. He wants first and foremost to sit on your shoulder and purr; then he’ll run and play with his siblings. Of the three kittens, he’s the most brave…  His looks are a lot like a Russian Blue cat.

Patches – ADOPTED – Thank You! Patches is one lucky girl! Surviving on her own for 7 months, she somehow managed to avoid getting hit by a car or attacked by dogs, and even found a kind soul to give her some food. Then along came a True Blue Animal Rescue member who trapped her to bring her to safety. This loving, playful, black and orange calico cat is now 8 months old, healthy, spayed, vaccinated and ready for a forever home. Patches has discovered that people are wonderful! She loves exploring her new world of indoor life; and lives for being petted. She’ll rub against your legs, and loves to sit in your lap and be held. She has quite the purr too! Her striking markings, like the orange stripe down her nose, just add to her character. So far, there’s nothing she doesn’t like – she’s even fine with other cats & dogs. See the world for the first time again, as you watch Patches discover and learn about your world. As long as she has you to run to for safety, she’s curious and willing to explore.

By way of roundup, purchase, then a seizure for animal neglect, Naimi ended up at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR). Naimi was just a weanling when she came to TBAR, and has grown up into a beautiful, bay two year old mare with flashy white markings. Typical of mustangs, she is small and will grow to be about 14 hands. Naimi is willing to please; and very people friendly.
