Success Stories: Scooter

Meet T-Bar’s Scooter

Scooter
Last week, we listed Luna as our Success Story of the week. This week, we have the privilege of posting Luna’s brother Scooter as our Success Story!

Scooter was abandoned on the side of the road with Prissy (aka Munchkin) and her sister Luna (PeeWee). This little group of dumped dogs remained where they were – thinking their owner would be back for them and would take them home again. Instead, these three were lucky enough to be spotted by a T-Bar foster who stopped to see if they could be coerced into a crate. Scooter and the girls were very shy and nervous at first, but after a little time and patience, they warmed up to be loving little lap dogs who would do anything for pets and attention.

Here’s what his adoptive mom has to say about him:

“He is great. He loves the babies, my son is connected at his hip. He slept with us in our bed all night long…yes we allow animals in our bed. 🙂 He is great with our other dog and the cat and him don’t really care that each other exist…no issues and very happy momma!!!”

Thank you for giving Scooter a wonderful, loving forever home!

Pyr Story

In February Olivia shared the story of the Pyrenees Dog rescue. We are pleased to follow that up with the happy success story ending for these dogs!
On March 12, 2012, after their final round of vet care, True Blue Animal Rescue sent Delia and Porthos, two Pyrenees rescue dogs, to New Jersey to be placed in forever homes through Eleventh Hour Rescue. In doing this we learned that northern states have done such a great job of eliminating their overpopulation problem that they currently have a shortage of rescue animals. With this demand for rescue animals in the north the southern states are now shipping hundreds there on a regular basis.
We linked up with PETS, LLC., one of the transport companies that brings dogs all over the country to their new homes. We met with this transport team in Houston, TX where there were another 40 dogs loaded into an air conditioned semi truck by compassionate people who were knowledgable about dogs and how to care for them in a transport situation. We were comforted and happy to receive updates and pictures of our dogs during this three day trip. Then when they arrived in New Jersey we were notified and sent pictures to assure us that they made it safely.
Since it means saving more lives we plan to try and place more dogs in homes in states that have less rescue dogs than we do but we also know that this is not the answer to ending our overpopulation problem. Thirty years ago these states had the same overpopulation problems that we see in the south. I worked in an SPCA in New York State and experienced this first hand. Since then They enforced licensing laws, developed spay / neuter programs and educated the public in order to become no kill states. Knowing this gives me the assurance that we can do the same thing here in Texas, and other states who are still working to decrease and then eliminate their euthanasia rates.
TBAR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill animal rescue organization. If you would like to help animals such as this one please consider donating to TBAR, volunteering, fostering, or adopting. Donations go directly toward care, feed, and veterinary care of the rescued animals and every little bit helps us to help another animal in need of safety and rehabilitation. Save a life: adopt instead of shop and spay or neuter your pets!

Success Stories: Luna (aka Pee Wee)

Peewee1

This little girl was abandoned on the side of the road with her sister, Munchkin, and another small black dog named Scooter. This little group of dumped dogs remained where they were – thinking their owner would be back for them and would take them home again.

Instead, these three were lucky to be spotted by a T-Bar foster who stopped to see if they could be coerced into a crate. Pee Wee, now named Luna, was very timid, but had nowhere to go, so she let the kind soul who found her come near. Even though she didn’t want to be picked up, this hungry little girl and her companions couldn’t resist the canned dog food they were offered, and they ran into a crate when they smelled it. Luna, Munchkin and Scooter were then brought to T-Bar to get the vetting and care that they needed. Luna was spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and began her search for her forever family.

With a face as cute as Luna’s, it didn’t take long for a family to fall head-over-heels for this sweet girl. After filling out their adoption application, the Allen family got to meet Luna and decided they could not let her go. Now our little Luna has a wonderful forever family and two other fur-kids, Ike and Tucker, to play with and love!

Success Stories: Jewel

Jewel, aka Ebony, was born on September 12, 2013, along with her siblings: Winston, Buffy, and Piper. Jewel’s mother, Gracie, gave birth to the litter of 4 shortly after being rescued off the streets by a very kind soul. Jewel spent a few months growing and learning how to be a great little kitty with her foster mom, but she found her perfect forever home with her new fur-sibling, Jack.

Thank you to the Molder family for giving Jewel a loving home and spoiling her like she deserves!

Pet of the Week: More Puppies!

pups

These precious puppies are 9 weeks old, fat and happy.  Their poor stray mama (who is about 35 lbs and black – looks like a Lab mix) had these babies on the property of a True Blue Rescue member, who of course, took them under her wing and is fostering them and their mom while TBAR and our great network of friends help find loving homes.  Did you know that a litter of pups can have more than one papa contributing DNA ?  Obviously the case with this bunch’a’punkins.  We saw them over the weekend, a couple of weeks after this photo was taken and were amazed at the differences in faces, snouts, leg and body lengths and coats.  Some have red with black points, wrinkly foreheads and jowls and longer noses that do look very much like hound dog faces; others are obviously Staffordshire Terrier mixes, with their chunky little bodies and square faces.  While a few have longer torsos and legs and distinct black blankets over the necks and backs with a shepard look starting to surface and last but not least, there are a few freckled faced, curly tailed babies who look like they have some beagle somewhere in there and is that little guy, 2nd from the right maybe a little bit bull dog ?  In other words – here is a wonderful bunch of great American mutts looking for their human match and loving home.  They’ve had their puppy shots and spay or neuter will be included in their adoption fee.  The first step to adopt or foster one of these little guys is to go to: www.t-bar.org and download an application (or call 936-878-2349 to ask for one to be mailed to you).  Fill that out and send it in, so you have one on file for the adoption team to work with.  Then email [email protected] or call the above # and make a date to come see them.

Our Newest Rescue: Esmeralda (Please Donate)

This is Esmeralda  She was found on a busy highway in Bryan running in and out of traffic. She’s underweight and has cuts and scrapes and an internal infection but will recover completely with some TLC. We had her spayed and vaccinated and are giving her antibiotics. She’ll be in rehab until she recovers.  Please consider donating toward Esmeralda’s medical care.

Success Story: Rosie!

rosie

Look who got adopted today! Rosie, the stray dog from the streets of Houston has a family of her own now! She has kids and a new Mom. A yard of her own and she’ll live inside! We are thrilled for Rose and her new family! What a great day!

Here is Rosie sleeping next to her baby brother when he fell asleep on her pillow.  She already knows to be gentle with the baby and she loves to play harder with the older kids!

photo (3)Rosie’s Story:

pet_443_1

Rosie was wandering Houston streets, trying to survive on whatever scraps she could find and becoming more and more uncomfortable and weak from a skin infection in the many cuts and scraps on her once lovely, angel white coat. She was living the life of abandoned dogs everywhere. Rosie sure needed an angel (though, she is one herself, as you’ll soon see). A kind woman stopped to help, and kept calling every no kill shelter and rescue she could google, until she got a yes. Luckily, True Blue Animal Rescue made room and took her into their rehabilitation program. Rosie amazed TBAR staff right from the get go. She stayed loving and happy, no matter what she had to go through to heal. She was ready to play and kiss and wiggle with delight, even though her poor body was just bones, sores and exhaustion. You’d never know all that, looking at her original pictures, but it is important because it tells what kind of dog Rosie will be in her forever home. Rosie is fun loving and so very gentle with other animals, little kids and everyone she meets. She’s a medium sized dog (40 lb.’s when grown) and a boxer/terrier mix. She is great in the house, on a leash and in the car.

Horse Success Stories Jan-Mar 2013

We are pleased that quite a few horses have found homes already this year!  Please allow us to share some of the 2013 success stories!

Luke

pet_2300_1

Luke‘s new foster home decided they just couldn’t let him go so they finalized his adoption and he gets to stay with them forever!

Luke’s Story:  Luke had to be moved from his foster home due to his foster dad’s heath issues.  Luke is about 8 years old and ride able  but needs further training. Luke is a VERY sweet boy and just loves attention and treats. He is blind in his left eye, but if he knows you’re there it doesn’t bother him at all.

Pixie

pet_1605_1

Pixie was adopted by the lady who was training her. This beautiful mare is going to be used to her fullest potential and will even be in horse shows! So exciting for Pixie!

Pixie’s Story:  TBAR was awarded 15 neglected Tennessee Walkers on 2/27/2012. Foster homes were needed to rehabilitate these horses. This photo did not accurately reflect the actual body condition of the horses – they were all skinnier.  Pixie is a 12 yr old Mare with a really sweet face and the sweetest soft eyes. Sorrel with flaxen mane and tail.

Santana & Holly

Santana was adopted by her foster family and gets to stay with them forever.  Here are pics of Santana with Holly!

Holly and Santana 2 Holly New Home Santana and New Mom

Dove Darling (Sahara)

Dove Darling Sahara

Dove Darling is also happy to have been adopted by her foster Mom and staying with them forever.  She was one of the Tennessee Walkers that was seized from an owner who was not taking care of them. Her name was Dove Darling but her new Mom named her Sahara. Thank you for adopting her and giving her the time and attention she needed to become the wonderful horse she was meant to be!

TBAR is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is a no-kill facility. Save a life and adopt instead of buying a pet. TBAR is always looking for temporary foster homes too!  If you would like to meet your own new friend, visit the TBAR Horses page.  Please read about ouradoption or fostering programs, or consider donating to TBAR.  Every little bit helps us to help another animal in need to be rehabilitated and then find their forever home!
