Success Story: Rosie!

rosie

Look who got adopted today! Rosie, the stray dog from the streets of Houston has a family of her own now! She has kids and a new Mom. A yard of her own and she’ll live inside! We are thrilled for Rose and her new family! What a great day!

Here is Rosie sleeping next to her baby brother when he fell asleep on her pillow.  She already knows to be gentle with the baby and she loves to play harder with the older kids!

Here is Rosie in her backyard playing with her brand new toys!

photo (3)Rosie’s Story:

pet_443_1

Rosie was wandering Houston streets, trying to survive on whatever scraps she could find and becoming more and more uncomfortable and weak from a skin infection in the many cuts and scraps on her once lovely, angel white coat. She was living the life of abandoned dogs everywhere. Rosie sure needed an angel (though, she is one herself, as you’ll soon see). A kind woman stopped to help, and kept calling every no kill shelter and rescue she could google, until she got a yes. Luckily, True Blue Animal Rescue made room and took her into their rehabilitation program. Rosie amazed TBAR staff right from the get go. She stayed loving and happy, no matter what she had to go through to heal. She was ready to play and kiss and wiggle with delight, even though her poor body was just bones, sores and exhaustion. You’d never know all that, looking at her original pictures, but it is important because it tells what kind of dog Rosie will be in her forever home. Rosie is fun loving and so very gentle with other animals, little kids and everyone she meets. She’s a medium sized dog (40 lb.’s when grown) and a boxer/terrier mix. She is great in the house, on a leash and in the car.

Jasmine and Moore Photography

Jasmine by Moore Photography

We were lucky to have Olivia and Jason with Moore Photography come out and capture some TBAR animals in the blooming bluebonnets!  We’d like to share with you Olivia’s post today on Jasmine:  “Get ready for the awesome story of Jasmine. She is another True Blue Animal Rescue work horse. Melanie Hewett-Deaeth, wisely uses her for a special lesson for children. Jasmine was hit by lightening and almost lost her life. While her life was saved she lost her gift of sight and found a home with T-bar. I was impressed by how gentle she is because horses are flee animals and mostly spooked easy.Jasmine has not let her loss of seeing stop her from being trusting and loving. When T-bar has open workshops for children Melanie lets them meet the horse first and then tells them that Jasmine cannot see. So kids understand that being disabled is not the end of the world, nor a reason to distance yourself from other people. Way to go Melanie and Jasmine. You inspire me.”

Thanks Olivia!  And thank you for the beautiful pictures that have made our new webpage look so great!

If you would like to see more of their work (including pictures of TBAR animals) you can like them on Facebook and also visit Oliva on Redbubble!

Horse Success Stories Jan-Mar 2013

We are pleased that quite a few horses have found homes already this year!  Please allow us to share some of the 2013 success stories!

Luke

pet_2300_1

Luke‘s new foster home decided they just couldn’t let him go so they finalized his adoption and he gets to stay with them forever!

Luke’s Story:  Luke had to be moved from his foster home due to his foster dad’s heath issues.  Luke is about 8 years old and ride able  but needs further training. Luke is a VERY sweet boy and just loves attention and treats. He is blind in his left eye, but if he knows you’re there it doesn’t bother him at all.

Pixie

pet_1605_1

Pixie was adopted by the lady who was training her. This beautiful mare is going to be used to her fullest potential and will even be in horse shows! So exciting for Pixie!

Pixie’s Story:  TBAR was awarded 15 neglected Tennessee Walkers on 2/27/2012. Foster homes were needed to rehabilitate these horses. This photo did not accurately reflect the actual body condition of the horses – they were all skinnier.  Pixie is a 12 yr old Mare with a really sweet face and the sweetest soft eyes. Sorrel with flaxen mane and tail.

Santana & Holly

Santana was adopted by her foster family and gets to stay with them forever.  Here are pics of Santana with Holly!

Holly and Santana 2 Holly New Home Santana and New Mom

Dove Darling (Sahara)

Dove Darling Sahara

Dove Darling is also happy to have been adopted by her foster Mom and staying with them forever.  She was one of the Tennessee Walkers that was seized from an owner who was not taking care of them. Her name was Dove Darling but her new Mom named her Sahara. Thank you for adopting her and giving her the time and attention she needed to become the wonderful horse she was meant to be!

TBAR is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is a no-kill facility. Save a life and adopt instead of buying a pet. TBAR is always looking for temporary foster homes too!  If you would like to meet your own new friend, visit the TBAR Horses page.  Please read about ouradoption or fostering programs, or consider donating to TBAR.  Every little bit helps us to help another animal in need to be rehabilitated and then find their forever home!

Dog Success Stories: January-March 2013

We are pleased with the adoptions that have happened so far this year!  Please let us share with you four of our early 2013 Dog Success Stories!

Lucky

Lucky Adoptedpet_440_1

Here’s Lucky, the sunglasses wearing dog, and his new Dad! We were thrilled to see Lucky go to his new home after a Petsmart adoption day! Lucky was adopted by a young couple to live in their home with their pet cat!

Lucky’s Story:  His luck had just about run out when the rescue where he was held, ran out of funds and was closing. For the dogs living there, this meant being shuffled around between whatever kill shelters would take them, where their chances of finding a home were 50/50, at best. But some dedicated volunteers started networking like crazy to find places for these dogs in no-kill shelters and rescues, like TBAR. Lucky, a homeless pooch made his way to TBAR and even got to see Santa and ask for his forever home for Christmas. Lucky is a lucky boy but he wants his adopters to know, he’ll be thrilled with any name they choose for him; that he is a very gentle and happy; and a friendly guy with children and other dogs. While at TBAR, Lucky quickly and willingly mastered the things dogs need to know. He walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and comes when he’s called. He is a mellow dog that’ll be overjoyed to play ball or go running with you but is just as glad to hang out by your side and keep you company during quiet times and TV time. Lucky is approximately 2 years old, neutered, current on all shots, heart worm negative and a boxer mix breed who weighs 45 pounds. This dog will make a great family dog as well as a great pal for a single owner.

Beaux

beaux with momHere is Beaux and his new Mom! Beaux will have a doggy sister and a great big back yard to run in when he’s not inside with his new family!  We have heard that Beaux is already best friends with his beagle sister!

Summer

pet_450_1

Summer was adopted by a wonderful family.

Summer’s Story:  Summer appears to be a hound/retriever mix and is approximately 5-7 months old. She is often calm and well behaved, but also has a fun, playful side. Summer has had no accidents in the house, can sit, and stay. Summer does not require a leash if you are a responsible owner and are walking her on low traffic streets. She will walk/run at the same speed as her owner and goes on 1.5 mile runs with no leash, staying with her current foster owner at all times. Summer plays GREAT with other dogs and is in a house with 4 others at the time. She is crate trained, meaning that she sleeps in her crate and is locked in it when no one is home. She loves her crate and often goes in there on her own free will to take naps. If you are looking for a pup that plays fetch, this is the one for you! Summer catches the frisbee in the air and brings in back and lays it down beside you. Fetch is one of her favorite things to do. Very little is known about Summer as she showed up at her current foster parents’ house one day and did not leave their front yard. She appears to have been very well taken care of – pretty coat, no fleas, trimed nails- and is very social and friendly with people of all ages She would be a great dog with kids who can run around in the back yard with her or a great companion for someone older.

Charlie

Charlie Dog

Charlie is living with his new Mom in her apartment. He’s the only dog so he gets all the attention now and loves it!

Charlie’s Story:  He is between 2 and 3 years old and his breed is most likely Bichon Frise, maybe purebred or maybe with a touch of Poodle or Cairn Terrier – all breeds known for their desire to bond very closely with a human companion. Charlie is no exception, he’s sociable as can be and though he’s young and energetic, he would be a great dog for a senior, a couple or a single person, because he’ll adapt to your activity level. And he’d be perfectly happy being the only dog in the family.

Charlie walks well on a leash, loves riding in the car, sitting on the couch watching TV and of course chasing balls and playing with toys. But if you can’t get down on the floor and play tug or run around the yard, he’ll make up games to play himself and look up often to see if you’re entertained. He is a 20 lb dog who is happy living indoors and loves the outdoors. This little guy was rescued as a stray. He’d been hungry, exhausted and afraid for sometime, when a kind lady noticed him and asked True Blue Animal Rescue to help him. Surviving without humans is something that some breeds can adapt to just fine, but not so, for these little guys, like Charlie – bred to be peoples’ close companions. He needs to know that his human, home, food and bed are all his and he is a member of the family. Charlie’s TBAR foster was a single woman with a gentle female dog and he bonded with both right away. However, he would not thrive in a household with multiple dogs, especially male dogs and dogs bigger than he is.

Reuben (now Cub)

Reuben cub 2

Reuben had a hard time finding his forever home, but we are pleased that he now has a new mom and dad and two human sisters, a human brother, and a dog brother!  The whole family is in love with him and they are working with him on his manners, and all learning to practice patience when he forgets some of what he has learned.  Congratulations Reuben (now renamed Cub) and keep up the good behavior!

TBAR is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is a no-kill animal rescue. Save a life and adopt instead of buying a pet. TBAR is always looking for temporary foster homes too!  If you would like to meet your own new friend, visit the TBAR Dogs page.  Please read about our adoption or fostering programs, or consider donating to TBAR.  Every little bit helps us to help another animal in need to be rehabilitated and then find their forever home!

Buttercup

Buttercup

Buttercup is a dog thats is as pretty and gentle as the wildflower she’s named for. She is a resident at True Blue Animal Rescue (TBAR) where she was brought as a homeless young dog. Buttercup’s lived the kennel life, surrounded by her fellow rescued dogs, waiting for a home and people of her very own. Though maybe that doesn’t sound like a real fun life, Buttercup has had a lot of good things daily, in her life at TBAR. Along with the usual good food, care and kindness TBAR gives in abundance, her foster mom there has taught her important doggie skills. She is housebroken, crate trained and walks on a leash (loves a bath and brushing) and is a happy, and very friendly girl. Buttercup is between 4 and 5 years old, so no worries about puppy negatives like chewing up sneakers or puddles on the rug. This girl has plenty of joyful energy to play ball, jog with you, go on walks and be enthusiastic about whatever you like. She has a good dose of yellow lab in her family tree and we’re guessing, a dash of border collie or aussie that gave her the poka dots. Buttercup is a bit over 40 lbs, spayed and current on all shots. Her best fit forever home, is one where her humans are there a lot and can give her the affection and time that she’s so patiently waited for, as one of many deserving dogs in a shelter. And it would be wonderful for her to get to spend plenty of time inside as well as out, so she gets to feel like a part of the family, which is all her big old heart has ever wanted. It is very likely she’ll get along fine with another dog, once she has a couple of weeks to adjust and learn the routine, because of her sociable and affectionate nature. She will need a fenced yard. If you’d like to meet Buttercup, just call 936-878-2349, or email [email protected]. You’ll find adoption and/or foster applications on the website at: www.t-bar.org also. You can download, fill out and return, on the website or by regular mail – then you are all set to make an appointment to meet Buttercup (or any of the beautiful TBAR animals. Please “friend” us on Facebook, where you’ll find ongoing news about rescues, their progress, pet tips, fun events and folks to discuss animals with.
