Pet of the Week: Nova Prime

The pet of the week is Nova Prime. What a great name for a pretty dog. Nova Prime is housebroken and barks at the back door when she needs to go out. She uses her crate when we are not at home and she sleeps in her crate at night. Otherwise, she enjoys company and lays on the rug near to where we are. She loves children and playing with other dogs. She is taken for a nice walk daily. Her build is low to the ground. She weighs around 65 lbs. Nova Prime is an adult female, large. She is a Hound/Boxer, up to date with routine shots and is spayed. T-Bar has a lot of animals that are waiting for their forever home.

If this pet of the week, is not the pet you are interested in, we probably have just about any pet you could want. T-BAR is a no-kill rescue. Not only do we like having our animals adopted out, we also are in dire need of foster homes. That way we can help more animals out there, who are in perilous times alone on the streets. TBT: Titan and Fire

Once upon a time these babies were born to a feral momma & abandoned at 2 weeks old. They were crying & cold in tall grass. Found by a sweet young woman. That young woman reached out and found me. She struggled to keep their little flames of life burning. Their sister was lost so she fought to keep the boys alive. Now here they are 2 years old & spoiled boys! Fire was adopted by a sweet little family & Titan was a foster failure!

Event Recap: Community Workshop with Alley Cat Allies

True Blue Animal Rescue hosted a free seminar to educate the community about how to help cats while controlling the population on Sat June 27th.The group picture was taken at the end of the event to show unification of rescuers moving forward to humanely care for animals in our communities.

Representatives Liz Holtz and Hannah Shaw from Alley Cat Allies out of Maryland flew in to teach us what they know and help us begin a successful Trap, Neuter and Return program in our community. Alley Cat Allies brought facts from studies showing that programs such as these are the only way to control the cat population. Cats have been living in our communities for hundreds of years just as raccoons, squirrels, possums and skunks do. They do not damage, harm or attack humans and their property. As natural hunters Cats help control rodent and snake populations in rural communities. The population can get out of control but killing them or removing them does not solve the problem. When one leaves, another will come and take it’s place. They can be controlled through Trap, Neuter and Return programs. They will be vaccinated when they are fixed and ear tipped so you’ll know which cats are done. Once they are fixed and returned they are no longer breeding, fighting, multiplying and they are disease free and vaccinated. They will stay in their own colony and live peacefully among the other animals and humans. We ended the seminar with Amy reading Tiger’s story so we wouldn’t forget him and would carry on to help other cats in his memory.

This program will take manpower and money. True Blue Animal Rescue volunteers have begun the process for our community and we started a fund called Tiger’s fund so we can pay to spay, neuter and vaccinate all the cats we’ll be helping. Thank You: First United Methodist

We would like to thank First United Methodist Church’s Youth group in Brenham for collecting donations for the animals at True Blue Animal Rescue! They thought of the horses, the dogs and some things for the office too! We especially love the painted bucket for one of our lucky rescue horses. Thank you for getting the donations to us Jennifer!

Success Stories: Widget and Duke!

This week we are announcing two adoptions. First we have Widget with her Dad. Widget’s new name is Rowdy! Then there’s Duke, the stray puppy that was found living on an abandoned couch, in his new home! Two lucky puppies that will have unconditional love in their forever families. It doesn’t get much better than that! Lucky for these two pups more and more people adopt instead of shopping for new pets. Meanwhile so many puppies still go to shelters and are euthanized because we don’t have enough foster homes to take care of them while we network for new homes. Event Recap: Read to Ride June 2015

TBAR-Read-2-Ride-June-2-2015 The rain finally subsided and we were able to have our third grade Read to Ride day at True Blue Animal Rescue. These students from Alton Elementary School in Brenham read a book and wrote a report over Christmas break in order to come out and ride a horse and enjoy a hay ride. This reading incentive is also a wonderful opportunity to educate children about animal care and to help them develop compassion and empathy for animals. The horse that had the biggest impact was our biggest horse, Roman. This beautiful senior boy teaches the students how kind and gentle such a big horse can be. As a senior horse he requires a special diet and the children learn about that too. They learn about teeth floating and hoof trimming as part of horse care and needs too. While some of the children are riding and interacting with horses the others enjoy a hay ride. This allows a great opportunity for nature watching and just silly fun and laughter. As you can see from the pictures the students and volunteers had lots of fun. Stay tuned for more read to ride camps this summer and next school year too. Our goal is to increase these educational programs each year so we can reach more students every year.

Happy Tails: Piper

Last week we shared Piper and his post-skunk encounter crazy hair as our #TBARFluff and we wanted to follow that up with a look back at how far he has come, and how happy he is now in his forever home! Here’s Piper, before and after. This poor dog was abandoned and starving in the streets. He’s a small dog and survived by hiding in a culvert Pipe in a driveway. Lucky for him one kind person couldn’t look away and made it her business to catch him and get him help. She became his foster Mom and then adopted. Here he is spoiled and happy in his new home. A true rags to riches story!

Pet of the Week: Shep

This week’s pet of the week is Shep! He is a gorgeous young male German Shepherd/Husky mix who will grow up to be quite large! Shep is such sweet boy. All Shep wants is a home to call his own. Will that be you or someone you know? Please share Shep so he can be found by his future forever home! Shep will make someone a beautiful and loving companion. Shep is up to date with routine shots and has been neutered.
