Success Story Update: Junebug!

TBAR-Adoption-Update-JunebugWho remembers Junebug? Several years ago we received a call from law enforcement asking us if we could take this horse. She was emaciated and had both old and new injuries. You can still see where she must have been hit so hard her ribs were broken. We named this sweet mare Junebug. Despite all the hardships she had endured this mare remained gentle and loving. Eventually she gained the weight but her story wasn’t over till her very special person found her and adopted her. Just look at the love between these two.

Thank you for adopting her and taking such good care of her Madison! Here’s what Madison has to say about Junebug now:
“She still loves children, she loves to go full speed when you ride, she loves carrots apples and the apple flavored treats we give her, she also loves cantaloupe rind too, shes not scared of guys anymore either!”

If you would like to adopt a sweet rescue horse we have several that are ridable and waiting for their forever person. Please email [email protected] or call 936-878-2349 for more information

Pet of the week: Sonador

TBAR-Adoptable-Horse-Sonador-POWPet of the Week! This is why we do what we do. The pet of the week this week is an 8 year old mare, by the name of Sonador is an 8 year old mare who was starved and left tied to a tree. She has now gained weight and is ready for adoption. She’s easy to halter, lead, brush and pet. She is current on shots and coggins.

T-Bar has a lot of animals that are waiting for their forever home. If this pet of the week, is not the pet you are interested in, we probably have just about any pet you could want. T-BAR is a no-kill rescue. Not only do we like having our animals adopted out, we also are in dire need of foster homes. That way we can help more animals out there, who are in perilous times alone on the streets. Please save a life by adopting a pet, instead of buying a pet and please have all your pets spayed and neutered. It is the right thing to do. If you are interested on where you can help or to look at all that is available to either adopt or foster, please go to www.t-bar.organd see all the animals that deserve a second chance and fulfilled life full of love, email [email protected] or call (936)878-2349 and one of our volunteers will get back to you as soon as possible. Roman Update: May 2015

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Roman-May-2015Has anyone been wondering how Roman is doing? Here he is May 17, 2015, almost four months after coming into True Blue Animal Rescue. He’s gotten lots of love and attention from TBAR volunteers Alissa Cannon and Amy Hemsell. He’s had the pleasure of meeting children who come out on camp days too! The “oohs” and “ahhs” when this big boy is walked out to meet them was priceless. He gives us the chance to teach kids about rescue, proper feeding and dental care for senior horses and having the farrier out to trim up his hooves so they don’t crack and hurt. Coming from a giant like this Percheron boy, this makes a big impact with the kids. He is a senior, but he’s still got a lot to give in his new roll as a TBAR horse ambassador.

If you look at his pictures you will see that he has gained a lot of weight since coming to us at the end of January. A great big thank you for Triple Crown Feed for donating their high quality senior complete feed to help him through his rehab. As you might imagine, a big horse like this can eat a lot and even more when trying to get him to gain weight. He’s still got some more weight to gain but the improvements in this short amount of time is amazing! As you can see his coat is shedding out from the reddish color to the slick, shiny black that it was meant to be. When getting the right nutrition in Triple Crown Feed they get everything they need to be slick and shiny! All Roman has to do now is eat, swat flies and enjoy life.
Thank you to TBAR volunteer Alissa Cannon for being his special sponsor human. She’s helped us afford his farrier work, hay and worming.

Throwback Thursday: Pearl

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-TBT-Jaden-and-Pearl‪#‎TBT‬ We took in a group of horses that were being starved by their owners several years ago. They didn’t trust people so it was a challenge for anyone to adopt them. That didn’t stop his mare’s adopter, Jaden. He worked with her and was soon able to ride her! Now Jaden and Pearl have a wonderful partnership. We love happy endings like this one. It’s a true testament to what love and patience can do.

Success Story: Hawk!

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Texas-Success-Horse-HawkToday’s success story is Hawk! He was in an abusive home as a colt so True Blue Animal Rescue took him in along with another colt. He had been starved by his owner and didn’t trust people which made it hard to find someone to adopt him. We sent him to Juan Vendrell of TC Ranch ventures and since that time we could halter him, saddle him and he finally started to trust people! He went to a new foster home and before too long they fell in love with him and decided to adopt. Here’s Hawk when he came to us and again with his family members, horse and human. He’s grown up to be a beautiful boy!!

Microchip Your Pet!

This week we shared a story about Oliver and Opal. If it weren’t for the fact that they were microchipped, the terrible person who took them from a rescue just to dump them in a shelter would have gotten away with it. Thankfully, the shelter scanned them and were able to take action to ensure they could have a happy ending!

To follow up on their story, we wanted to discuss microchipping. In some cities, microchipping is either mandatory or strongly encouraged. In rural areas, it is not as common, but the benefits are the same. Think about the RFID ear-tages that farmers use on their livestock to ensure their safe return if they ever get loose. Microchipping your pets is just as important!

A microchip is an electronic device that contains information connected to a database that helps to identify your pet if it lost or stolen. Unlike collars, which can be lost, removed, or worn down with age, a microchip is an identification tool that lasts the life of your pet and gives you the unquestionable ability to prove your pet is yours if you need to. All pets can be microchipped, including cats, dogs, and horses. People also regularly register their birds, and it is possible to microchip animals as small as fish or as large as whales.

Microchipping is done most commonly at your veterinarian’s office, although some shelters and rescues are able to do it as well. When your pet is chipped you must complete an enrollment form. You will receive a registration certificate which serves as your ownership document, similar to an automobile title. This document must accompany the pet if it transfers ownership. You also must keep your contact information up-to-date if you move.

It is not difficult or expensive to get your pet microchipped. The chip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted under the skin of your pet (on the side of the neck or between the shoulderblades). It usually costs between $25-50, is not invasive, and requires no anesthesia. Your pet will experience no lasting pain or irritation, and while you will be able to feel a small bump where it is located, they will not notice.

The chip can then be scanned with a hand-held device (many vets run this scan at each annual exam to ensure it is still working). Pets who are found (or turned over to a shelter or rescue) are routinely scanned on intake to ensure they do not have a chip that is registered. If a stray is chipped, their owners are immediately notified. Registrations usually not only have the owner’s information, but also an emergency contact (sometimes the vet). This ensures that there is a network available to help work at getting the pet back to the rightful owners.

For such a low cost and small bother, it is more than worth it to chip your pet and live with the peace of mind that they can and will be returned to you if you ever get separated!

Help Us Name our Newest Rescued Horse!

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Texas-New-Rescue-Feb-21Thanks to Austin Co Deputy, Nathan Hale, this sweet mare will live to know a full belly again! She was found in a pasture alone and starving. Her pasture mate didn’t survive and was on the ground beside her. Lucky for her Nathan removed her from this situation and certain death. She arrived at Brenham Vet Hospital yesterday and was determined to be about 25 years old and healthy enough to make a full recovery. She’s sweet, trusting and loving. She’s spending the weekend at the vet hospital while we wait for coggins results and then she’ll be moved to a True Blue Animal Rescue foster home for rehabilitation. After she’s gained a little weight she’ll have her teeth floated and then on to full recovery.

Now all she needs is a name! Please post your name suggestion in the comments below.
Donations toward her care are appreciated. Donate through our Facebook page or website www.t-bar.org

Thanks for helping us help the animals!
