TBAR in the News: Stand against Horse Slaughter

TBAR was in the news this week for saving some young horses from being shipped to slaughter. Click here to read the full article from KBTX.

It doesn’t stop there though. This is a call to action! We need your help!

Americans are over-breeding horses and allowing them to be tortured and shipped to Mexico to die. Over 1/3 of the equine population is shipped each year. These beautiful animals suffer in feed lots, in transport and then as they are killed. We can stop this madness. Contact your representatives and let them know that we want the Safe Act passed. As Americans it’s our right to share our view and effect changes in our laws. Animal rights people please like and share so this is heard right before you write your US representative. This is a federal bill so representatives need to be contacted in Washington DC from every state. Details on how to find who to contact are at the end of the video and on the web site. Horses are a symbol of American Freedom. Don’t let this symbol go down in this inhumane way!

Click here to find your US representative, and then email them and explain that you would like to see them support HB 1942 and why.

Pet of the Week: Rock

Rock 05-25-15Why not add another beautiful boy to your family? This one is just for you! Rock is an American Staffordshire Terrier, Adult male, and large. He is up-to-date with routine shots and has been neutered. Rock is a wonderful dog who is happy and fun loving. He walks on a leash and loves to run and play too.

T-BAR is a no-kill rescue. Not only do we like having our animals adopted out, we also are in dire need of foster homes. That way we can help more animals out there, who are in perilous times alone on the streets. Please save a life by adopting a pet, instead of buying a pet and please have all your pets spayed and neutered. It is the right thing to do. If you are interested on where you can help or to look at all that is available to either adopt or foster, please go to www.t-bar.org and see all the animals that deserve a second chance and fulfilled life full of love, [email protected] or call (936)878-2349 and one of our volunteers will get back to you as soon as possible. Adoption Fee: Please email [email protected] for adoption fee! Adoption fee includes neuter or spay, up to date vaccinations, heartworm tested if old enough or started on heartworm prevention as a puppy, deworming and a one year TBAR membership.

Roman Update: May 2015

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Roman-May-2015Has anyone been wondering how Roman is doing? Here he is May 17, 2015, almost four months after coming into True Blue Animal Rescue. He’s gotten lots of love and attention from TBAR volunteers Alissa Cannon and Amy Hemsell. He’s had the pleasure of meeting children who come out on camp days too! The “oohs” and “ahhs” when this big boy is walked out to meet them was priceless. He gives us the chance to teach kids about rescue, proper feeding and dental care for senior horses and having the farrier out to trim up his hooves so they don’t crack and hurt. Coming from a giant like this Percheron boy, this makes a big impact with the kids. He is a senior, but he’s still got a lot to give in his new roll as a TBAR horse ambassador.

If you look at his pictures you will see that he has gained a lot of weight since coming to us at the end of January. A great big thank you for Triple Crown Feed for donating their high quality senior complete feed to help him through his rehab. As you might imagine, a big horse like this can eat a lot and even more when trying to get him to gain weight. He’s still got some more weight to gain but the improvements in this short amount of time is amazing! As you can see his coat is shedding out from the reddish color to the slick, shiny black that it was meant to be. When getting the right nutrition in Triple Crown Feed they get everything they need to be slick and shiny! All Roman has to do now is eat, swat flies and enjoy life.
Thank you to TBAR volunteer Alissa Cannon for being his special sponsor human. She’s helped us afford his farrier work, hay and worming.

Event Recap: Carnival in the Park 2015

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Carnival-2015Brenham’s Carnival in the Park was a huge success again this year! This really great community event was held on May 9th between Animal Friends of Washington Co Clinic and the Dog Park on Hwy 36.True

Several Rescue organizations, Brenham’s city shelter and several other local businesses were there to enjoy the fun. It was a great opportunity to walk your dog and meet and chat with people in Washington County.

True Blue Animal Rescue had some pets there for adoption, Tshirts for sale, face painting, balloon animals, bubbles and hoppy ponies for the kids to play on. This is just a small sample of all the fun we had!

Happy Tails: Watson

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Watson-Happy-TailHere is a Throwback Thursday Happy Tail of Watson the dog. He had wandered up on someone’s porch when he was near death, and that person networked him on Facebook to find someone who could take him in. Luckily, Kris Broussard agreed to foster and (being a nurse) she was able to clean his wounds and get him started on the road to recovery that night. Thanks to those who donated he is now fully vetted, healthy and ready for adoption! What a difference some love, good food and vet care can make!

Success Story: Mocha

True-Blue-Animal-Rescue-Adopted-MochaMocha is the last of Hope’s puppies. Everyone loves a puppy so a lot of people got to pet her and spend time with her but when her foster family took her camping, but Rod and Lisa met her they fell in love! Lucky for Mocha they decided to adopt and took this sweet little girl home from the campground. Here’s some pictures of this sweet girl with her family!

Pet of the Week: Opal

opal3Did I just hear what you said? Did you say you want a dog? Well, here is bargain for you, a Pet of the week, Opal. Opal is an adult medium sized spayed Terrier/Labrador Retriver. She is very friendly and lovable. She likes to run and play as much as she loves to be scratched and cuddled. She walks well on a leash and gets along with other dogs. She’d make a perfect pet for any family!
